Fall at Bear House Catskills: Pond Views, Cozy Nights, and Room to Slow Down

Some of our favorite fall views are right outside the door.

Trees turn shades of gold, orange, and rust around the pond. Their reflections stretch across the water, and the evergreens keep a little green in the picture. Pull up a chair, bring your coffee, and give yourself permission to sit for a while.

At Bear House Catskills in Cairo, New York, you can fill your days with exploring or spend a perfectly lovely afternoon without leaving the property.

Start with Coffee and a Pond View

There’s no need to rush breakfast when this is what’s waiting outside.

Take your coffee into the yard, find a comfortable seat, and watch the light move across the pond. Look for birds in the surrounding trees or take a few photos of the foliage reflected in the water.

Some mornings call for conversation. Others call for a second cup and a little quiet.

Leave Room for an Afternoon Outside

Bring a fishing rod for catch-and-release fishing in our private spring-fed pond, or simply enjoy a wander around the property. The cattails, changing leaves, and woodland backdrop offer plenty to notice when you slow down.

Fishing is catch-and-release only, and the pond is for enjoying from the shore. Swimming, wading, and skating aren’t permitted. Children should always be closely supervised near the water.

Explore a Little, Then Come Home

If you’re in the mood to head out, make an afternoon of exploring the Catskills’ small towns, cafés, shops, and scenic roads. Browse for something you didn’t know you needed, stop for lunch, or plan a walk before heading back to the house.

Keep your plans flexible. Fall weather can change, so pack layers and check conditions before setting out for a hike.

And if your big outing turns into coffee and a bookstore? That counts.

Make Time to Stay In

Back at Bear House, there’s room to gather and room to do your own thing.

Put on a favorite record, cook dinner together, or settle into a board game. Head downstairs for a little friendly competition at the ping pong table. On a chilly evening, the indoor fireplace makes staying in an especially appealing plan.

With three bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms, and space for up to eight guests, the house welcomes couples, families, and friends looking for time together.

End the Night Outside

Save a little room after dinner for s’mores around the fire pit.

Then trade your extra layer for a soak in the year-round hot tub. On a clear night, look up at the stars before heading inside for bed. It’s a lovely way to end a day that didn’t need much of a schedule.

Bring the Dog, Too

Fall getaways are better when the whole family can come. Well-behaved dogs stay free at Bear House Catskills, so there’s no need to leave your favorite walking companion behind.

Pack their leash, a familiar blanket, and a towel for muddy paws. They’ll have plenty of autumn smells to investigate.

Plan Your Catskills Fall Stay

Come for the foliage, make time for the pond, and leave a few evenings open for whatever sounds good: a home-cooked dinner, another game, or one more soak.

Check availability and book your fall getaway at Bear House Catskills.
