Luxe Mountain Retreat

A Three-Day Weekend at Bear House Catskills

An extra day makes room for a little more of everything. Another slow breakfast. An afternoon with no plans. One more evening in the hot tub.

At Bear House Catskills, our three-bedroom vacation home in Cairo, New York, you can spend a long weekend exploring, relaxing, and enjoying time together. There’s room for up to eight guests, and well-behaved dogs stay free.

Here’s how a Friday-to-Monday stay could unfold.

Before You Arrive: A Little Planning, a Slower Weekend

Pack comfortable clothes, shoes for exploring, and a swimsuit for the year-round hot tub, even in winter. If you’re bringing the dog, remember their leash, food, and favorite bed.

We provide bed linens, bath and pool towels, shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. The kitchen has cookware and bakeware, so bring groceries for the meals you’d like to make, along with your favorite coffee and snacks. Planning a fire pit evening? Add marshmallows, chocolate, and graham crackers to the list.

Browse our local guides and choose an outing or two. Leave some space in the schedule for whatever everyone feels like doing once you’re here.

Check-in begins at 4 PM, and we’ll send your private entry code before arrival.

Friday: Arrive and Settle In

Bring in your bags, choose your bedrooms, and make yourself comfortable.

There’s a king bed in the primary bedroom, a queen in the second bedroom, and two queens in the third. With 2.5 bathrooms, everyone has room to settle in.

Keep the first evening easy. Unpack the groceries, put on a record, and make something simple in the kitchen. Or pick up dinner on the way and leave the cooking for tomorrow.

End the night with a soak in the hot tub. It’s open year-round, whether the trees are green, the leaves are turning, or there’s a chill in the air.

You’ve arrived. Tomorrow can wait.

Saturday: A Day to Explore

Start with coffee by the window or the pond then breakfast together. Let the early risers enjoy a quiet cup while everyone else takes their time.

Then head out for a taste of the Catskills. Choose a hike, browse local shops, visit a bookstore, or find a spot for a leisurely lunch. Our local guides can help you choose an outing that suits your group.

You don’t need to fit everything into one day. Pick a few things you’re excited about and enjoy them.

Back at the house, there’s time for a game of ping pong, a favorite record, or a quiet moment by the pond before dinner.

Cook together in the kitchen or fire up the propane grill. Gather around the table and let the conversation carry the evening.

Sunday: The Day You Don’t Have to Leave

This is the best part of a long weekend: waking up on Sunday with another full day ahead.

Make a proper breakfast. Pour a second coffee. Stay in your slippers a little longer.

When you’re ready, step outside for birdwatching by the spring-fed pond or try a little catch-and-release fishing. The pond is for enjoying from the shore, with no swimming or skating.

In warmer months, spend the afternoon by the seasonal pool or take a turn in the hammock. On cooler days, challenge someone to ping pong, pull out a board game, or settle in with a book.

There’s room for everyone to spend the afternoon their own way. A fiercely competitive game downstairs and a quiet afternoon upstairs can happily coexist.

If you feel like heading out again, make it a short outing. There’s still a whole evening to enjoy back at the house.

Sunday Evening: S’mores and a Soak Under the Stars

Make your last evening one to linger over.

Enjoy dinner together, then head to the fire pit for s’mores when conditions allow. Everyone has an opinion about how toasted a marshmallow should be. This is their moment.

End the night with a soak in the hot tub beneath the open sky. On a clear evening, look up at the stars. Or head inside for a cozy night by the indoor fireplace.

Please keep outdoor conversations quiet during our 9 PM to 9 AM quiet hours.

Monday: One Last Cup

There’s time for breakfast and another coffee before checkout at 11 AM.

Pack up, take a final look at the pond, and make sure nobody has left their favorite sweatshirt behind.

You might head home with photos from a hike, a new favorite restaurant, or an unresolved ping pong rivalry. We hope you also leave feeling glad you gave yourselves the extra day.
